… in other words, the “art of lashing a volume set in an hour”.
Who among us stylists is not plagued by the question “how much longer will it take?” As a beginner, it took me 4 hours to complete lashing a whole set. My eyes and back were completely strained and had my model absolutely worn out by the end of it all. It demotivated me no end since it became clear as daylight that this way neither was I going to be able to retain clients, nor was I going to get recommended to others. I tried everything to achieve my target in shorter time. Today, I would like to share my experience with you at getting there.⠀
⠀1. Preparation⠀⠀
Keep your work place sparkling and squeaky clean, and keep all the materials ready before the client arrives. You should be all set and not rushing around to fetch things you have forgotten. This saves at least 15-20 minutes of your time and a whole lot of fluster.
2. Make up removal
Ask your client to remove all traces of make up before coming to your salon. This saves at least 10 min of your time, if despite prior instructions you should require to wash and degrease the eyelashes with eyelash shampoo and primer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Ensure good visibility
The better you see, the better you can glue. Daylight clarity and magnifying glasses help carry out the meticulous work with precision. It helps save time, avoid concentration and strain!

4. Use a forehead tray
Eyelashes and glue are in a position close to the eyes when they are placed on a forehead tray or magnetic headband. The distance travelled from the eyelashes on the tray to the eyelid is kept this way to a minimum, assuring real speed and least strain on your eyes. For me, it has meant saving about 15 min of time.
5. Use premade fans of eyelashes …
This is the biggest time saver! You can complete a gorgeous volume set within an hour with prefabricated fans of eyelashes. Ensure that the fans are finely crafted and there are no knots.
6. … or self-fanning eyelashes
Self-fanning eyelashes, also called Magic Volume Lashes or even Express Lashes are those that automatically form a fan when you pick a few eyelashes together off the strip with your tweezers. Also watch the video “Magic Volume Lashes, self-fanning eyelashes”.
As you can see, there is no good reason to laboriously make fans. It is not possible, in any case, to make a whole set so perfectly and evenly by oneself in such a short time.
7. Minimise brushing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have often observed in our training sessions that stylists brush way too much at intervals of gluing. Even though these mascara brushes are convenient and expedient, there is really no need to brush after every 3-4 eyelashes! This just takes up too much time and slows down the entire process. Simply pick them up one after the other, dip in the glue and place them and keep repeating uninterruptedly. This helps you make quick progress and finish faster.
8. Speak less
Yes, it is nice to chat with clients. And yes, in a sense, we are therapists too! But talking slows you down in the application process.
Speaking agitates our hand. When the client speaks, her eye-movements increase and this impedes our progress. It all adds up in aggregate of the time taken.
In such a case, a lip mask that you can offer your client as a pampering service is very helpful. I like to use the Hydrogel Collagen Pads for this. They are enriched with gold, camellia sinensis leaf extract, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, blackberry and cranberry fruit extract and castor oil. They care for the lips with their rich ingredients, while you can work undisturbed and your customer relaxes.
9. Turn the head
You can even turn the clients head gently to a side to glue for a better angle. This not only saves you a lot of time, but also lowers the strain to your shoulders and back.
If you follow all these tips you may succeed in the application of a volume set in just over an hour. That is a huge step taken towards customer-friendly service, quality and efficiency.
